So immigration is once a gain a hot button issue; this time for more then just the Southwest states. As usual the media is leaving out important information.

First, like it or not we do exist in a socialist democracy. The idea of a social safety net is only sustainable when enough people contribute. The problem is socialist states such as the US and Europe was not designed to handle the mass influx of immigrants who are unable to contribute to the social safety net. This means we need to either raise taxes or control the flow. The point is, immigration control is not simple racism, it is a fact that our system is being burdened by too many people who do not have the means to contribute.

Second, the repeated idea, "Illegal immigrants do jobs real American’s won't". There needs to be a qualifier on that statement, "Illegal Immigrants do the jobs, American's cannot AFFORD to work". If the jobs these immigrants were taking paid decently there would be no need for a black market in illegal labor. Further more, we would not even need to pay an American higher wages. Per Eric Schlosser's book "Reefer Madness" EVERY immigrant job done in farm labor can be done by a machine faster and cleaner. The problem is the startup costs are higher then just hiring illegal immigrants.

Therefore, rather then rebuilding the farm labor system to entrench illegal immigrants as a necessary evil, we ought to pursue redirecting farm subsidies at converting farms to mechanizing farm labor further. This would achieve several goals. One, you would no longer need illegal labor; most importantly though, it would create good high paying manufacturing and service jobs. Those machines would need to be built (hopefully in America by Americans) and they would not to be repaired and serviced, hopefully once again by Americans.
