Cindy Sheehan Quits....
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070529/ap_on_re_us/cindy_sheehan
Dear Cindy,
Thank you for fighting the good fight for as long as you did. I am writing to say I completely understand why you are retiring from the movement. I went through the same thing a few years ago in Grad school. A life of public service is a very hard thing when you are not being wined and dined by lobbyists. A life of public service is one of self-sacrifice for what you believe to be the greater good of society.
The problem I realized and you seem to have come to the same conclusion is that no matter how much you give there will always be those waiting in the wings to undo everything you worked so hard to change.
The Democratic party is nothing about apologists, apologizing for being liberals because at the end of the day they are owned by the same corporate interests that run the republican agenda.
At least the Republicans own up to their agenda and give their base what they thrive off of, Hate & Fear.
What does the Democratic base get? Nothing but false hope and promises that one day when the time is right we will honor what you put us in office to do. Until then, you need to be patient and wave your flags for us and not say anything mean about our dirty business as usual.
Ultimately it is just disgusting and like you I don't see a way out. The 2 party system here in America is too cemented in place for now.
I extend my deepest sympathy for your son and thank you for sharing your loss with the rest of us. My heart hurts every time I hear a personal story behind the death of an American service men. I just wish the rest of the public would wake up and see the lives of all these young people with bright potentials is in no way worth whatever rationalization of the week there is for the War in Iraq. I hope they figure it out before we invade Iran and more brave young people have to die for what?
I hope you can still find some peace,
Art Jannicelli
