It has been a week since my last update, time really flies here. Tuesday, I had my first class meeting. It was great, when we went around the room and did introductions everyone was there because they wanted to study globalization from a Political and Economic standpoint, with a qualitative method. The professors seemed very good as well.

Afterwards, a large group of us met at a local pub. We were there for 5 hours! It was great, about half of us are international students. Everyone is an intellectual, reads, and has an opinion. I am really looking forward to this year now; I can tell I am really going to learn a lot.

Wednesday, I learned what it meant they say being a grad student is a full time job. I went to the library and pulled out my reading list and starting looking up the 14 items I needed to read before next Tuesday. It took me about 2 hours to learn their catalog system, and find the various sections and how things are shelved. Then I encountered the hard reality that resources are finite and I have to compete with several other students for the same books. So far I have gotten 4 of 14 done. I was in the library from 11:30am till 6:30pm before I called it a night. That was more time in a library then I ever spent in my entire time as an undergrad other then study groups. Today I have class so I’ll have to leave earlier. In any case it is going to be a lot of work, but I think I will get a lot out of it. I am very excited to finally be challenged and to work with peers.

Unfortunately, though it looks like I will be stuck in my current housing for quite a long time. A good thing though is the school finally processed two of my 3 checks, so I’m paid in full for the year’s tuition and housing. If I don’t get my check by tomorrow I guess I’ll go have to cause trouble. I took a picture of the outside of my building I will post it soon; my camera is not with me now. I really appreciate all the emails I have been getting, makes it easy not to miss home. Good bye, from the land of tomorrow…
