Been a very busy week, hence no updates. SO this is going to be a huge update. I got my AO Enf up to 58, and am enjoying it. My class reading and various meetings have been keeping too busy. I had a quiz Tuesday. I'm almost over my illness. I got Death of a Salesmen in the mail today. I'm looking forward to reading it. At long last I also have a good pic of myself that I added to the pictures section.
I've added 2 papers to the papers section. One on the 2000 Presidential election the other is a Movie review of "Bowling for Columbine".
My classes are going all right. I like them all except for one. My religious ethics class is OUTSTANDING! Time and time again, my professor is answering common problems with religion. I'm learning its not religion that is bad its the way the church's have perverted the fundamental teaching to support capitalism. The Bible is all about Social Justice. Its funny the way the conservative thumpers in the class have been squirming. One guy actually got all puffed up and demanded my professor show him the passages that say God measures a society in terms of how well they care for the weak. This guy thought my professor was spewing liberal garbage as he put it. So that class looks awesome so far.
My Future economics class is also excellent. So far we have learned how intellectual property is retarding this countries development in a serious way. Most importantly I have learned that the US economy is dependent on intellectual property do to the collapse of commodities (due to subsidies) and the other stronger leg of the economy is arm sales. So without our massive military budget, the US economy would collapse. Another thing we learned that shocked me is the fundamental flaw of economics. Economics does not account for time. All the Math and fancy graphs are really only capable of explaining one economic cycle or a snap shot in time. The problem is nothing is ever constant, shit happens.
The only class I do not like so far is my Intro to IR. The professor is focusing WAY too much on nation state theory. He also claims to be a terrorism expert. Two things I both think are bunk. I have to work hard to watch what I say because everything I say is IPE based.
In terms of global politics, Powell said something funny this week. After the first NATO meeting where France, Germany, and Belgium denied Turkey's request for military aid; Powell promptly went to a press conference and said something along the lines of "no big deal, they are only 3 out of 16". The Irony of that statement was fabulous if you are familiar with how many UN votes go 179 to 4, the four being US, UK, Israel, and Micronesia. So taking Powell seriously, I guess we should start ignoring the rich 4 in the UN.
Also, Bush is saying Iraq is moving troops to population centers for human shields. BULLSHIT! What did you call all the army national guards in New York and Washington after 911? The same thing, moving forces to protect your citizens. That is all Iraq is doing. Then again the sanctions on Iraq make it a crime to feed or medicate Iraqi's too, so military protection is probably a terrible violation.
The first link is an example of the open Bigotry in Conservative Republican politics. Grants gays rights to civil rights does not promote cross-dressing and homosexuality in schools!
