I made it safe and sound to Sussex. In the pictures section you can now find pictures of my Dorm room and my trip to Sussex. Is it turned out getting to Heathrow was the easy part. I was able to transfer my money at a decent rate without a problem just using my WAMU card at a standard ATM. The ATM’s here don’t charge fees as I’ve seen so far. The bus to Sussex was another story, what was supposed to be a 2 hour ride took 3.5 hours!
Then when I get to the campus come to find out they had no record of my applying for campus housing GRRR!!! Despite having contacted them at least three times regarding the matter. They placed me in a dorm with 21 and over undergraduate international students. Which is fine except that I can only stay here until June then I would have to find a place to live off campus, so now I have to go get in line on October 6th to get on a waiting list for a graduate dorm.
The campus itself is on the side of a giant hill, so I will be getting a lot of exercise. My room is also on the 4th floor so dragging 150lbs of stuff up was fun too. Another problem is no seems to be able to tell me exactly where anything is, so I waste a lot of time funding stuff or finding it closed. So I eventually got to sleep at 11am California time, (28 hours without sleep dragging 150lbs all over England). I slept for 18 hours then got up ran an errand, and discovered the bank was closed.
I had to buy a bath towel yesterday from the Student store, cost me $6 and was not even clean, it was the last one they had. I still need more towels and a UK power cord for this laptop. It looks like the internet access sucks here, so I will probably be writing my updates in my room then walking to the lab GRR!!! I have a plan though, so maybe I can get around it.
Tonight I’m going to my first mixer. I also need to decide where I’m going to get my power cord and Speakers, I may wait till Monday to decide that. I’m still recovering from 18 hours of sleep so I may have something more coherent to say later this week. Good night California…
