Thanksgiving 2005 I drove through Death Valley in one 12 hour stretch non-stop from east to west.

On the east side of the park the lines of the road are washed out, looking pretty spooky.

This is highest above the groud I got, notice how clear the air is.

The opposite view from the same hill, you would not believe the silence...

Hottest and lowest point in Death Valley, you can only walk on the salt flats in the winter.

A little pond on the salt flats.

Here is a a photo further back you an see the pond, I walked out to as far as you can see.

Dunes of Death Valley. As I drove past this part of the park, the sand was blowing across the road making patterns and hiding the highway, it looked very cool.

I ended up spending the night in Lone Pine, CA. It was slighty out of my wya being North of the park but it is the closest place to stay on the west side of the park.

Overall I really enjoyed Death Valley. It is a true paradise of solitude, the peace and quiet here is unreal. This is the kind of place I'd want to leave ashes. The only negative part is a lot of couples vacation here; so everytime I stopped I was over hearing wedding plans...
