Thoughts on Capitalism

The fundamental root of all of our problems in America is Capitalism. Capitalism is the driving force of economy. Therefore, it sets the rules for corporations that are the real power in America.

One of the biggest problems in America is widening Economic stratification. This is increasing gap between rich and poor in America. There is a simple way to fix this problem, Pay people more! If people were paid more, this would boost the economy by giving people more disposable income. Then when they spent this income it would create greater market demand causing businesses to higher more people to meet this demand. Which would create even more market demand from these new consumers.

Thanks to Capitalism though, I doubt this will ever happen. Every Business and Corporation in America is a slave to its investors. This mentality means a corporation will only act to increase dividends for its owners. Therefore, we cannot expect corporations to raise wages because it would not benefit owners in the short term.

I don't have a better Idea then Capitalism. I cannot buy into Socialism or Communism. Since people are not born equal economically, physically, or intellectually. So far now I'll stick to Capitalism. Although, I just wanted to drop my 2 cents on what I see wrong with the system.

Update 10/02/02. As of The first day of this semester I was a radically changed man. I am now a Socialist. I now know it is a viable solution to capitalism/globalization. The reason I did not believe in it previously is that I bought the whole party line of capitalism that said those at the bottom are at the bottom because they deserve to be there either because they are stupid or lazy.

I now realize that is illogical and irrelevant to think that way. What this world needs is the elevation of need. I would insist that what this world needs is International Socialism. We need to guarantee basic rights to live to all human beings, the rights to good food, clothing, clean water, and a safe, clean living environment and as much free education as anyone wants. To do this we would not have to tax the middle class to death as the Republican Party would have you believe. Instead, we simply need to lay this burden on the corporations who need us to work to produce the goods and services that make them rich.

The only way this will happen though is if these taxes are adopted by everyone otherwise corporations will just move out of the places that have these taxes. Another means of income would be tax corporations HEAVILY for polluting, this would also help provide for the world population and at the same time make it cost effective for corporations to go green. It is inhuman that every human being is not already guaranteed these rights. The best way I see this happening is through a global federalist progressive systemworking towards global socialism. If we are to survive as a species this must happen.
